Chris fishing in Colorado in 1986.
He is still very much into camping, kayaking, hiking, etc. I loved seeing the kids develop all kinds of interests, especially ones that we never had, like fishing.
Loved even more watching them develop interests we did have, like reading.
It's impossible, when raising kids, to really understand that you are living with a future adult. Impossible, but great.
Is this the one where one of your kids aid, "Eh, more rocks."? I remember you wrote that to me in a letter and I laughed hard enough to fall off my chair.
ReplyDeleteTried three times to post this comment. Clearly blogger hates me today.
Yes, thanks for reminding me! Erin was being a typical grouchy teen toward the end of the trip (a month of tent camping in Colorado and Utah). When we arrived at Bryce Canyon, she insisted on staying in the car while the rest of us walked to the nearby lookout point. The view was spectacular - Bryce has multicolored rock formations. So I went back to the car and insisted that she come and look, sure that she would be impressed.
ReplyDeleteNope. Took one look, and made her famous comment, which I still think of as the ultimate in teen "I'm too cool for this" sensibility.
Of course, now she's a lovely woman and very pleasant traveling companion!
